If you thought the culture wars were over

Think again. The party that represents the hard right nationalists, the GOP/Tea Party, is back up to its old tricks, including pursuing legislation with an obsessive focus on curtailing women's reproductive rights. One opponent to these draconian bills hit it about right:
Senator Frank R. Lautenberg of New Jersey, another Democrat who joined the news conference, compared the proposals to “a Third World country that’s requiring women to wear head shawls to cover their faces even if they don’t want to do it.”
For all of the hard right's obsession with Sharia Law, it often seems like they're busy trying to create their own "Christian" version of it in the US. We really should be clear as to what these folks want to do: it's to punish people who have sex on terms other than those they approve of based on their own narrow interpretation of a religious text. These folks want a theocracy or at least one with "democratic" pretensions, such as Iran. If you ever wanted to know what life would be like if Clerics were calling the shots, our House of Representatives is giving you a taste. Alternately, you could go to small towns out in the South or in the plains region and get a stiff dose of theocrats in action. These folks don't care about creating jobs, nor do they care about deficits. It all comes down to control: imposing their order on all of the rest of us by any means necessary, including "second amendment remedies". Short of that, they'll lie through their yellow teeth and advocate terrorism to get their way.
